Katy Perry is doing her part for underprivileged youth as the "Unconditionally" singer was named a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador at an event Tuesday in New York City.
Her mission?
Perry will take up the task of engaging young people in UNICEF's work to improve the lives of the globe's most vulnerable children and teenagers. That means empowering them to speak out about the challenges they face including such issues as living in extreme poverty in communities beset by violence, abuse, neglect and war.
"I believe young people have the power to change their own lives, with our help," said the 29-year-old hitmaker. "I am honored to join UNICEF as a Goodwiil Ambassador, and committed to doing everything I can to help children and adolescents who come from such different backgrounds but want the same thing: a brighter future."
Amy Adams Doesn't Get Why People Mistake Her for Isla Fisher
Nope, Amy Adams is not married to Sacha Baron Cohen. That's Isla Fisher.
And it's Fisher in Wedding Crashers, not Amy Adams.
While it seems perfectly reasonable to mix up the two redheaded bombshells – they have a similar look, they're two years apart in age – Adams is 39 and Fisher is 37 – and an inch apart in height – Adams says she doesn't understand why there's any confusion.
"I get Isla Fisher all the time, still. And I know Isla, and for a while our kids went to the same dance school. When I'm with Isla, we both look at one another and … I get it but I don't get it," the actress tells Vanity Fair in their January cover story.
"But just like I tell her, it could be a lot worse. I could be mistaken for a lot worse people."

The Pop Princess (and birthday girl!) discussed her Planet Hollywood gig with Ryan Seacrest during an iHeart radio album preview for Britney Jean (which drops tomorrow) today.
"There's a lot of different, interesting aspects to the show and a lot of moments where the audience feels like they're in the show with us. A lot of special effects like that and it's the most dancing I've ever done," Spears said.

Josh Brolin and Diane Lane Are Officially Divorced
Josh Brolin and Diane Lane have finalized their divorce.
The pair had separated earlier this year, and Los Angeles County Superior Court documents filed Nov. 27 made the split official.
Lane, 48, who had legally changed her name to Diane Lane Brolin, has restored her name to Diane Lane.
Last month, Brolin, 45, checked into a rehab facility following several public altercations.
The actors were married in 2004, during a ceremony at Brolin's central California ranch.
The couple have had a tumultuous marriage, as Brolin was arrested just four months after the wedding for spousal battery. Although Lane phoned police claiming Brolin had hit her, she did not press charges.
After the couple separated, James Brolin, Josh's father, told PEOPLE the split was "mutual."

It looks as if Orlando Bloom and Miranda Kerr really meant it when they said they were "amicably separated."
The pair, who announced their split in October after three years of marriage, were spotted in N.Y.C. on Saturday with their son, Flynn, who turns 3 in January.
Bloom, 36, held his son who was clutching a toy sword.
"We love each other. We're a family," Bloom said of the Victoria's Secret model, 30, days after their split.
"We're going to be in each other's lives for the rest of our lives. There's no question that for the sake of our son and everything else, we're going to support one another and love each other as parents to Flynn."
