The Kitchen (2012) Certificate R Comedy | Drama Jennifer's thirtieth birthday party is supposed to be a special day. But what starts out as a day of celebration quickly spirals into a most ill-fated day Jennifer wishes she could forget, in this ensemble comedy set entirely in a kitchen. Director: Ishai Setton Stars: Laura Prepon, Jillian Clare, Bryan Greenberg, Dreama Walker The kitchen tends to be the best place to stake out territory at a house party, and the setting has helped indie director Ishai Setton enjoy his highest profile release to date. Laura Prepon is tasked with keeping it together while her romantic life is exposed to a series of drama bombs, and we hear that Dreama Walker -- from Compliance infamy -- kills it in her supporting role. &nb

Reality (2012) Certificate R 116 min - Comedy | Drama Luciano is a charming fishmonger whose unexpected and sudden obsession with being a contestant on a reality show leads him down a rabbit hole of skewed perceptions and paranoia. Director: Matteo Garrone Stars: Aniello Arena, Paola Minaccioni, Loredana Simioli, Nando Paone Matteo Garrone's new work is a lighter affair that hasn't generate as much talk as his crime-world masterstroke, Gomorra, despite the fact that his star, Aniello Arena, has been imprisoned for some two decades (for murder, reportedly) and was only allowed to shoot the film during the days. Garrone's star belongs to an acting troupe that is based at the Volterra Detention Center and able to perform at festivals and theaters around Italy; Garrone wanted to cast Arena in Gomorrah but was unable to get clearance for that project. Could someone make this documentary?

The Incredible Burt Wonderstone (2013) Certificate PG-13 100 min - Comedy When a street magician's stunts begins to make their show look stale, superstar magicians Burt Wonderstone and Anton Marvelton look to salvage on their act - and their friendship - by staging their own daring stunt. Director: Don Scardino Stars: Steve Carell, Luke Vanek, Steve Buscemi, Mason Cook Give partial credit to Horrible Bosses for this long-gestating comedy finally getting a green light (the two projects share the same writing team: Jonathan M. Goldstein and John Francis Daley), but, surprisingly, the pairing of Steve Carell and Jim Carrey is shaping up to be another potential under-performer for Warner Bros. . Hey, it's not like Horrible was shaping up to be a hit, and now a sequel is officially a go, so the real trick is for the movie to pull off a better-than-expected opening weekend.

21 & Over (2013) Certificate R 93 min - Comedy The night before his big medical school interview, a promising student celebrates his 21st birthday with his two best friends. Directors: Jon Lucas | Scott Moore Stars: Miles Teller, Justin Chon, Jonathan Keltz, Sarah Wright Like Proiectul X, this might become more of a hit with the illegal-download set than movie-going types, but either way, screenwriters-turned-directors Jon Lucas and Scott Moore should find success with what we've been calling The Hangover Jr..

A Glimpse Inside the Mind of Charles Swan III (2012) Certificate R 86 min - Comedy A graphic designer's enviable life slides into despair when his girlfriend breaks up with him. Director: Roman Coppola Stars: Charlie Sheen, Jason Schwartzman, Bill Murray, Katheryn Winnick The first trailer didn't quite stoke my enthusiasm for Roman Coppola's follow-up to the visual achievement that was CQ, but I have faith that his new work is much more than a costume party starring Charlie Sheen. And if I'm wrong, I will finally side with a close friend who asserts that there is no space in the current art world for musings of the Coppola Aristocracy.

Identity Thief (2013) Certificate R 111 min - Comedy | Crime Metascore: 35/100 (41 reviews) Mild-mannered businessman Sandy Patterson travels from Denver to Florida to confront the deceptively harmless-looking woman who has been living it up after stealing Sandy's identity. Director: Seth Gordon Stars: Jason Bateman, Melissa McCarthy, John Cho, Amanda Peet The industry was in a frenzy, trying to shape a project for Melissa McCarthy after her breakout performance in Bridesmaids. Similar to Kristen Wiig, she measured her big-screen options while enjoying elevated ratings for her TV show "Mike & Molly". But consider us a bit underwhelmed by the thought of her matching wits with Jason Bateman in his reunion with director Seth Gordon; their career comedy Horrible Bosses was hard-R formula at its most basic, and I fear we're in for another raunchy outing that doesn't play to McCarthy's

Stand Up Guys (2012) Certificate R 95 min - Comedy | Crime A pair of aging stickup men try to get the old gang back together for one last hurrah before one of the guys takes his last assignment - to kill his comrade. Director: Fisher Stevens Stars: Al Pacino, Alan Arkin, Christopher Walken, Julianna Margulies The aged assassins/last hurrah playbook is wielded yet again; this time for a go-round with three actors who could probably do it better without a script. And this is a scaled down theatrical event at best; the second consecutive low-profile release from Lionsgate, who took a similar path for The Haunting in Connecticut 2: Ghosts of Georgia. &n

Warm Bodies (2013) Certificate PG-13 98 min - Comedy | Horror | Romance After a highly unusual zombie saves a still-living girl from an attack, the two form a relationship that sets in motion events that might transform the entire lifeless world. Director: Jonathan Levine Stars: Nicholas Hoult, Teresa Palmer, John Malkovich, Analeigh Tipton Better than The Wackness or even 50/50 is director Jonathan Levine's first film, All the Boys Love Mandy Lane, so I'm happy to see him returning to the horror genre for what could be the next undead date movie -- the sub-genre introduced by Zombieland. Maybe this will become the undead version of The Perks of Being a Wallflower. &

Noobz (2012) Certificate R 97 min Four friends hit the road to LA to compete in the Cyberbowl Video Game Championship, but will they be able to compete with the worst hangovers of their lives? Director: Blake Freeman Stars: Blake Freeman, Mindy Sterling, Jason Mewes, Matt Shively I'll have to check with my gamer friends to see if this for-the-fans comedy makes any inroads, or if the conversations they have while deep in some alternative reality are funnier. Zelda Williams -- daughter of Robin -- has a supporting role as first-world lust object. &n
