![](/folder7/248.jpg) Scatter My Ashes at Bergdorf's (2013) Certificate PG-13 93 min - Documentary A documentary on the Manhattan department store with interviews from an array of fashion designers, style icons, and celebrities. Director: Matthew Miele Stars: Rachel Zoe, Candice Bergen, Ashley Olsen, Mary-Kate Olsen Filmmaker Matthew Miele dedicated one year to interviews with Bergdorf's enthusiasts from the fashion industry and beyond; in total, it's reported that he spoke with nearly 200 people at the fabled department store that apparently didn't have much of a historical archive of its own. Of all his subjects, we hear window designer David Hoey gives the documentary its soul.

![](/folder6/181.jpg) Free Angela and All Political Prisoners (2012) 102 min - Documentary A documentary that chronicles the life of young college professor Angela Davis, and how her social activism implicates her in a botched kidnapping attempt that ends with a shootout, four dead, and her name on the FBI's 10 most wanted list. Director: Shola Lynch Stars: Angela Davis, Eisa Davis Director and intermittent "Seasame Street" actress Shola Lynch hasn't made a feature documentary since 2004's Chisholm '72: Unbought & Unbossed, and knowing she's back in fighting-female mode with a profile on the heroic and poetic Angela Davis has us primed for what might be the most definitive work on Davis to date -- though The Black Power Mixtape 1967-1975 did her justice, too.

![](/folder6/144.jpg) Room 237 (2012) 102 min - Documentary An exploration of various interpretations of Stanley Kubrick's horror film, Stralucirea. Director: Rodney Ascher Stars: Bill Blakemore, Geoffrey Cocks, Juli Kearns, John Fell Ryan Rodney Ascher's work is billed as a "subjective documentary" on hidden meanings in the film version of The Shining. It's definitely a crowd pleaser for people who thought the world might end last year, or those who have played Dark Side of the Moon while watching Vrajitorul din Oz. Interviewees offer up a series of insights that blur the line between credibility and fanaticism, but Ascher knows how to respect his cast while entertaining his audience. The notion that Stanley Kubrick created the film as a way of dealing with his feelings about the Holocaust and American imperialism are viable, while some people take what can only be continuity errors to another level of

![](/folder6/64.jpg) Don't Stop Believin': Everyman's Journey (2012) Certificate R 113 min - Documentary A documentary on Arnel Pineda, who was plucked from YouTube to become the new singer for the rock & roll band, Journey. Director: Ramona S. Diaz Stars: Arnel Pineda, Neal Schon, Jonathan Cain, Ross Valory Selected as the opening-night film for the prestigious Silverdocs festival, Ramona Diaz's chronicle of the unlikely replacement for one of pop music's most distinctive voices is a reportedly warm and gentle affair that acknowledges Arnel Pineda tough upbringing in Manila and the fateful YouTube click that changed his life. Fans of grittier work might be phased by the surface-skimming, especially in a year that brought us Searching for Sugar Man and Beware of Mr. Baker, but I wouldn't be at all surprised if this story breaks through to the mainstream. &

Director: Roberta Grossman Stars: Harry Belafonte, Regina Spektor, Glen Campbell, Leonard Nimoy No doubt that this documentary will have a successful transition from the film festival circuit to the art house and online streaming. Like the song's oral history, word-of-mouth should sustain the film for a long time.

![](/folder5/4.jpg) Koch (2012) 100 min - Documentary | Biography | History Metascore: 71/100 (17 reviews) A documentary on Ed Koch, the mayor of New York City from 1978 to 1989. Director: Neil Barsky Stars: Ed Koch, Michael Bloomberg, Calvin O. Butts III, Carl McCall These days, the depictions of New York City we often encounter on screen, in print, and otherwise tend to relate to the Koch Era; countless essays, documentaries, and vinyl-album issues recall the halcyon days of a gritty, dangerous, and affordable Manhattan populated by artists and prone to crises. Something tells us former Wall Street Journal reporter Neil Barsky's documentary doesn't damn or celebrate Koch's mayoral reign, opting instead to connect its challenges, controversies, and hallmarks to the city's present. Can we expect some subtle revelations from the famous private formerly public citizen? &nbs
