Showtime Renews ‘Masters of Sex,’ ‘Homeland’ Showtime has picked up a second season of "Masters of Sex” and a fourth season of ‘Homeland.” Renewal for Sony Pictures TV’s "Masters” is no surprise, as the period drama has been performing well for the pay cabler behind "Homeland.” It has also generated strong critical buzz, particularly for stars Michael Sheen and Lizzie Caplan. "Homeland” order was a shoo-in. The Fox 21 drama series has reached new ratings highs since its third season bowed Sept. 29. "’Homeland’ continues to prove its strength for Showtime, and is one of television’s most exciting, provocative and widely-discussed shows. It has grown its audience significantly in each of its three seasons,” said Showtime entertainment prexy David Nevins. "The critical and audience reaction to ‘Masters of Sex’ since its great launch has been incredibly gratifying. It’s a p

After awakening from a nearly 70-year nap and helping to save the world from a plague of alien baddies, humble supersoldier Steve Rogers — a.k.a. Captain America — thinks he might finally get a chance to adjust to modern life in Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Unfortunately, the world has other plans. Today, Marvel unleashed the first moody poster for the Captain’s second solo cinematic spotlight. Though the rest of the film’s cast — including Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes, Anthony Mackie as Falcoln, and Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow — isn’t pictured, fans of Chris Evans’s silhouette, lens flares, and bird’s-eye views of our nation’s capital should be pleased. (Wait — is Captain America the one who really ended the government shutdown?) Check it out below: The first teaser trailer for The Winter Soldier premieres online Thursday; the film hits theaters April 4. The next movie in the Marvel C

Katniss Everdeen headed for People’s Republic in November "The Hunger Games: Catching Fire” has been approved for a November release in China, Lionsgate said Tuesday. The hotly anticipated sequel scored entry into the world’s second largest market for films just under the wire. As TheWrap reported exclusively last week, China has reached its quota of foreign films it allows to debut in its borders. An individual with knowledge of the situation told TheWrap, that it was not entirely clear what films had made the cut, but under a recent trade agreement, China only allows 34 foreign releases annually, with a particular emphasis on 3D and IMAX releases. "Thor: The Dark World” is also believed to have scored a coveted slot, the individual said, and this month Warner Bros. confirmed that "Gravity” will hit the People’s Republic in 2014. Was "Iron Man 3" just the beginning for Ben Kingsley and Marvel Studios? While making the press rounds for his new film "Ender's Game," the Oscar winner ("Gandhi") revealed that he'll soon be working with the studio again, although in what capacity is anybody's guess. "It's a secret Marvel project. I'm not allowed to say any more, you're going to have to wait and see," he teased the Belfast Telegraph. There's no other information, and it's unclear if Kingsley will be reprising his "Iron Man 3" role of Trevor Slattery (an actor who posed as the arch-villain Mandarin), or if he'll be playing another part. Likewise, it's unknown if Kingsley is discussing a new project or if he'll pop up in future Marvel movies such as 2014's "Captain America: The Winter Soldier" or 2015's "The Avengers: Age of Ultron." Could the Mandarin be making a return? Will Slattery's dramatic talents be put to use by T

Reese Witherspoon can now laugh at her infamous run-in with the law. If you don't remember, the Oscar winner was arrested in April in Atlanta for disorderly conduct after her husband was pulled over under the suspicion of driving while intoxicated. Witherspoon was arrested after disobeying repeated instruction from a police officer to remain in their car. "Personally, as a true friend, my favorite project of hers was an overlooked short film that she made earlier this year," Chelsea Handler said last night while presenting Witherspoon with an Elle Women in Hollywood Award at the Four Season Hotel in Beverly Hills. "She plays a very inebriated housewife defending her inebriated husband." Just a few feet from the stage, Witherspoon doubled over in laughter in her seat. Her husband, talent agent Jim Toth, also laughed along at the joke. He was arrested that night for DUI. "And if you haven'

What happens when you get Sandra Bullock, Matthew McConaughey and Julia Roberts in the same room? PEOPLE found out for you at Monday's Hollywood Film Awards – and we had a photo booth to document all of the behind-the-scenes action at the Beverly Hilton. Among the first to work it for the cameras: Hollywood Supporting Actor Award honoree Jake Gyllenhaal, who was recognized for his work in Prisoners. Next up? Before Midnight costars (and Hollywood Screenwriter Award recipients) Ethan Hawke and Julie Delpy, who were photo-bombed by none other than Jack Black. (Aren't you glad what happens in the photo booth doesn't stay in the photo booth?) Also getting candid: McConaughey, Coldplay's Chris Martin and Michael B. Jordan. &

Armed with only their partners and their dancing shoes, this week's remaining eight couples participated in the "Switch-Up Challenge," a modern-day take on a dance marathon. Talk about a happy birthday. Kanye West proposed to Kim Kardashian on Monday – the day she turned 33 – in front of family and friends at San Francisco's AT&T Park, which he rented out for the occasion, E! reports. West, 36, appeared on the same night at the Hollywood Film Awards in Beverly Hills, making reference to a quick commute from San Francisco but saying nothing about a wedding proposal. The rapper and the reality starlet, who first went public with their relationship in 2012, are parents to 4-month-old daughter North. This will be the third marriage for Kardashian, who filed for divorce from basketball star Kris Humphries in 2011 after just 72 days as husband and wife. Their long-running divorce battle finally ended last June. Her first marriage to music producer Damon Thomas ended in divorce in 2004. The proposal comes during marital problems for her mother

Any writer will tell you that dialog is important, but the crucial element is subtext. And so it is with the Hollywood Film Awards. Every year, Oscar contenders go in droves to the event, usually making wisecracks, but often they don’t even know why they’re there. The answer is simple: It’s not about who won what, it’s about superstition and strategy. The awards were started in 1997 and were pretty low-key until Fox’s 2001 "Moulin Rouge” was named Hollywood Movie of the Year. Some in the biz scratched their heads, but the Baz Luhrmann film a few months later earned a best-pic Oscar nomination. The following year the celeb quotient rose considerably, as Steven Spielberg, Tom Hanks and Jennifer Aniston all showed up to accept their honors. (And showing up seems to be the key factor in winning at HFA.) Did the attention pave the way for Oscar? It’s highly unlikely, but during awards season, strategists l
