After awakening from a nearly 70-year nap and helping to save the world from a plague of alien baddies, humble supersoldier Steve Rogers — a.k.a. Captain America — thinks he might finally get a chance to adjust to modern life in Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Unfortunately, the world has other plans. Today, Marvel unleashed the first moody poster for the Captain’s second solo cinematic spotlight. Though the rest of the film’s cast — including Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes, Anthony Mackie as Falcoln, and Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow — isn’t pictured, fans of Chris Evans’s silhouette, lens flares, and bird’s-eye views of our nation’s capital should be pleased. (Wait — is Captain America the one who really ended the government shutdown?) Check it out below: The first teaser trailer for The Winter Soldier premieres online Thursday; the film hits theaters April 4. The next movie in the Marvel C

Katniss Everdeen headed for People’s Republic in November "The Hunger Games: Catching Fire” has been approved for a November release in China, Lionsgate said Tuesday. The hotly anticipated sequel scored entry into the world’s second largest market for films just under the wire. As TheWrap reported exclusively last week, China has reached its quota of foreign films it allows to debut in its borders. An individual with knowledge of the situation told TheWrap, that it was not entirely clear what films had made the cut, but under a recent trade agreement, China only allows 34 foreign releases annually, with a particular emphasis on 3D and IMAX releases. "Thor: The Dark World” is also believed to have scored a coveted slot, the individual said, and this month Warner Bros. confirmed that "Gravity” will hit the People’s Republic in 2014. Was "Iron Man 3" just the beginning for Ben Kingsley and Marvel Studios? While making the press rounds for his new film "Ender's Game," the Oscar winner ("Gandhi") revealed that he'll soon be working with the studio again, although in what capacity is anybody's guess. "It's a secret Marvel project. I'm not allowed to say any more, you're going to have to wait and see," he teased the Belfast Telegraph. There's no other information, and it's unclear if Kingsley will be reprising his "Iron Man 3" role of Trevor Slattery (an actor who posed as the arch-villain Mandarin), or if he'll be playing another part. Likewise, it's unknown if Kingsley is discussing a new project or if he'll pop up in future Marvel movies such as 2014's "Captain America: The Winter Soldier" or 2015's "The Avengers: Age of Ultron." Could the Mandarin be making a return? Will Slattery's dramatic talents be put to use by T

Director: Abhishek Kapoor Stars: Amit Sadh, Sushant Singh Rajput, Raj Kumar Yadav, Amrita Puri Abhishek Kapoor's drama doesn't have the star power that can help a Bollywood film break big in the U.S., but the film's narrative, which delves into two early 2000s tragedies, just earned strong praise at the Berlin International Film Festival.

Dark Skies (2013) Certificate PG-13 97 min - Horror | Sci-Fi | Thriller As the Barret family's peaceful suburban life is rocked by an escalating series of disturbing events, they come to learn that a terrifying and deadly force is after them. Director: Scott Stewart Stars: Keri Russell, Jake Brennan, Josh Hamilton, Dakota Goyo This story contains elements that bring the first two seasons of "American Horror Story" to mind, and we credit that show with giving this horror/thriller more attention than we would otherwise. Sorry to say the thing that gives us pause is the presence of director Scott Stewart, who will hopefully ease off the visual-effects indulgences that turned his first two movies -- Legion and Priest -- into unintended spectacles. The trailer was refreshingly old school, so we're holding out for a potential throwback to classic alien-invasion tales. &nbs

Snitch (2013) Certificate PG-13 112 min - Drama | Thriller A father goes undercover for the DEA in order to free his son who was imprisoned after being set up in drug deal. Director: Ric Roman Waugh Stars: Dwayne Johnson, Susan Sarandon, Jon Bernthal, Rafi Gavron A few years ago, you might have thought Dwayne Johnson's movie career had peaked, but like a storyline lifted from the WWE's playbook, he's back on top and considered the best add-on to franchises that are looking for a little oomph. Here he's the main attraction in stuntman-turned-filmmaker Ric Roman Waugh's debut - a project that spent nearly a decade in different states of development before Summit scooped it up. If the story weren't based on actual events (which was depicted in a "Frontline" documentary years back), we probably wouldn't be as interested; of course it helps to have a supporting cast populated with three

Reese Witherspoon can now laugh at her infamous run-in with the law. If you don't remember, the Oscar winner was arrested in April in Atlanta for disorderly conduct after her husband was pulled over under the suspicion of driving while intoxicated. Witherspoon was arrested after disobeying repeated instruction from a police officer to remain in their car. "Personally, as a true friend, my favorite project of hers was an overlooked short film that she made earlier this year," Chelsea Handler said last night while presenting Witherspoon with an Elle Women in Hollywood Award at the Four Season Hotel in Beverly Hills. "She plays a very inebriated housewife defending her inebriated husband." Just a few feet from the stage, Witherspoon doubled over in laughter in her seat. Her husband, talent agent Jim Toth, also laughed along at the joke. He was arrested that night for DUI. "And if you haven'

What happens when you get Sandra Bullock, Matthew McConaughey and Julia Roberts in the same room? It was a night of shocks and surprises on Dancing With the Stars as our season 17 contestants participated in a brand-new competition experiment and a jaw-dropping elimination. Armed with only their partners and their dancing shoes, this week's remaining eight couples participated in the "Switch-Up Challenge," a modern-day take on a dance marathon. Talk about a happy birthday. Kanye West proposed to Kim Kardashian on Monday – the day she turned 33 – in front of family and friends at San Francisco's AT&T Park, which he rented out for the occasion, E! reports. West, 36, appeared on the same night at the Hollywood Film Awards in Beverly Hills, making reference to a quick commute from San Francisco but saying nothing about a wedding proposal. The rapper and the reality starlet, who first went public with their relationship in 2012, are parents to 4-month-old daughter North. This will be the third marriage for Kardashian, who filed for divorce from basketball star Kris Humphries in 2011 after just 72 days as husband and wife. Their long-running divorce battle finally ended last June. Her first marriage to music producer Damon Thomas ended in divorce in 2004. The proposal comes during marital problems for her mother

Any writer will tell you that dialog is important, but the crucial element is subtext. And so it is with the Hollywood Film Awards. Every year, Oscar contenders go in droves to the event, usually making wisecracks, but often they don’t even know why they’re there. The answer is simple: It’s not about who won what, it’s about superstition and strategy. The awards were started in 1997 and were pretty low-key until Fox’s 2001 "Moulin Rouge” was named Hollywood Movie of the Year. Some in the biz scratched their heads, but the Baz Luhrmann film a few months later earned a best-pic Oscar nomination. The following year the celeb quotient rose considerably, as Steven Spielberg, Tom Hanks and Jennifer Aniston all showed up to accept their honors. (And showing up seems to be the key factor in winning at HFA.) Did the attention pave the way for Oscar? It’s highly unlikely, but during awards season, strategists l

If you have not see Paramount's upcoming "Bad Grandpa," and you're interested it in seeing it, then might I recommend that you not watch the new red-band trailer for the film? Here's my thinking: part of the thrill of seeing the film, as with every film in the "Jackass" series, comes from the surprise of how the gags unfold. Some of the set-ups are obvious, but what really makes the film work is seeing how the jokes play out and seeing how they play variations on the gag. Running this sort of red-band R-rated trailer gives you a good idea of just how far the film is willing to go for a joke. The vending machine joke that opens the trailer is far more visually upsetting than this lets on, and there's a sequence they show a bit of that comes later in the film that is absolutely insane. Seeing the film in a packed theater, I was entertained as much by the screams that came from people in the theat

We're hesitant to criticize Chloë Grace Moretz after seeing her terrifying turn as the most famous revenge-seeking teen, but facts are facts and the fact is that the dress is way too big. See how the high neckline sits slightly off the Kick-Ass star's chest? That's because it's not fitted to her figure. And do you notice that the belt doesn't quite cinch into this starlet's natural shape? That's because the waistline is too wide. Part of the problem is that this Vivienne Westwood design features thick fabric and ruffles throughout, creating an all-over bunchiness that makes it look bigger than it really is. We'll cut the budding star some slack for that element of the attire. But at the end of the day, the flirty pink color and vintage print just makes Chloë look like a little girl playing dress-up in her grandma's clothes from the '50s. Now please excuse us while we go run and hide just in cas

Ron Swanson (Nick Offerman) doesn't show emotion too often, but when he does, it usually falls under frustration, annoyance, hatred and anger. Oddly enough, those are all the emotions we felt when we discovered that NBC is shelving Parks and Recreation until Nov. 14! Replacing Parks in the Thursday night time slot this week is a repeat of The Voice, because of course it is. Next week will feature a Saturday Night Live Halloween clip show, and then NBC will put Parks and Rec back on the air for two weeks. After those episodes air, the Pawnee crew will be yoinked off the air for the remainder of 2013, retuning in early 2014.

When Carol Burnett launched her namesake variety show in the 1960s, one TV executive told her the genre was "a man’s game.” She proved him wrong with an 11-year run that averaged 30 million viewers each week. On Sunday, the trailblazing comedienne received the nation’s top humor prize at the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. Top entertainers including Julie Andrews, Tony Bennett, Tina Fey, Amy Poehler, and others performed in Burnett’s honor as she received the Mark Twain Prize for American Humor. The show will be taped and broadcast Nov. 24 on PBS stations. "This is very encouraging,” Burnett deadpanned in accepting the prize. "I mean it was a long time in coming, but I understand because there are so many people funnier than I am, especially here in Washington. "With any luck, they’ll soon get voted out, and I’ll still have the Mark Twain prize.” Fey opened the show with s

Cee Lo Green could face up to four years in prison after being charged Monday with giving a woman ecstasy. The Voice mentor, 39, was charged with one felony count of furnishing a controlled substance to an unidentified 33-year-old woman in July 2012, according to a statement issued by the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office. Green, whose real name is Thomas DeCarlo Callaway, was allegedly dining at a restaurant in downtown L.A. with the woman when he slipped her ecstasy, according to the statement. The two later went back to the woman's hotel room. Prosecutors declined to file a sexual assault charge against the TV personality, who was originally accused of rape of an intoxicated person. Prosecutors cited insufficient evidence and ask that his bail be set for $30,000. Green's attorney, Blair Berk, described the singer's relationship with the woman as "consensual," and with reg

Director: Neil Barsky Stars: Ed Koch, Michael Bloomberg, Calvin O. Butts III, Carl McCall These days, the depictions of New York City we often encounter on screen, in print, and otherwise tend to relate to the Koch Era; countless essays, documentaries, and vinyl-album issues recall the halcyon days of a gritty, dangerous, and affordable Manhattan populated by artists and prone to crises.
