The Iron Man actor was just named the Most Valuable Star of 2013 by Vulture. The New York magazine site combined domestic and overseas box office totals, studio value, likeability, Oscars, critics' scores, Twitter mentions and tabloid value when deciding exactly which Hollywood stars would make the list. Leonardo DiCaprio was named "The Star Who Started Smiling Again" and landed the No. 2 spot. Meanwhile, Jennifer Lawrence was dubbed "The Breakthrough BFF" and was in third place on the top 100 list. The mag wrote about the Hunger Games beauty, "Nobody has navigated instant fame better than her." Showtime Renews ‘Masters of Sex,’ ‘Homeland’ Showtime has picked up a second season of "Masters of Sex” and a fourth season of ‘Homeland.” Renewal for Sony Pictures TV’s "Masters” is no surprise, as the period drama has been performing well for the pay cabler behind "Homeland.” It has also generated strong critical buzz, particularly for stars Michael Sheen and Lizzie Caplan. "Homeland” order was a shoo-in. The Fox 21 drama series has reached new ratings highs since its third season bowed Sept. 29. "’Homeland’ continues to prove its strength for Showtime, and is one of television’s most exciting, provocative and widely-discussed shows. It has grown its audience significantly in each of its three seasons,” said Showtime entertainment prexy David Nevins. "The critical and audience reaction to ‘Masters of Sex’ since its great launch has been incredibly gratifying. It’s a p

Stoker (2013) Certificate R 99 min - Drama | Mystery | Thriller After India's father dies, her Uncle Charlie, who she never knew existed, comes to live with her and her unstable mother. She comes to suspect this mysterious, charming man has ulterior motives and becomes increasingly infatuated with him. Director: Chan-wook Park Stars: Mia Wasikowska, Nicole Kidman, Matthew Goode, Dermot Mulroney I can't really describe my anticipation for the English-language debut from Chan-wook Park, director of Bakjwi and the Lady Vengeance trilogy most popularly represented by its second installment, Oldboy. Though he isn't directing from his own screenplay -- those duties were left to Wentworth Miller, who was guided by the dark-hued hand of Erin Cressida Wilson -- Park has narrative and stylistic flourishes that are a custom fit for Nicole Kidman's art-house leanings. Meanwhile, Mia Wasikowska c

The Last Exorcism Part II (2013) Certificate PG-13 88 min - Horror | Thriller As Nell Sweetzer tries to build a new life after the events of the first movie, the evil force that once possessed her returns with an even more horrific plan. Director: Ed Gass-Donnelly Stars: Ashley Bell, Julia Garner, Spencer Treat Clark, David Jensen Most interesting to us is the studio switch that finds the sequel to the surprise horror hit being released by CBS Films instead of Lionsgate. Back in 2010, the genre specialists relentlessly marketed the original for an $20 million opening weekend. Looks like CBS Films is determined to stick around and has begun to shell out for proven box-office hits (remember how The Woman in Black performed for them). Eli Roth is back in producer mode and probably knows more than anyone that this really is nowhere near the the last exorcism for poor Nell Sweetzer. I

Directors: Jon Lucas | Scott Moore Stars: Miles Teller, Justin Chon, Jonathan Keltz, Sarah Wright Like Proiectul X, this might become more of a hit with the illegal-download set than movie-going types, but either way, screenwriters-turned-directors Jon Lucas and Scott Moore should find success with what we've been calling The Hangover Jr..

Jack the Giant Slayer (2013) Certificate PG-13 114 min - Adventure | Fantasy The ancient war between humans and a race of giants is reignited when Jack, a young farmhand fighting for a kingdom and the love of a princess, opens a gateway between the two worlds. Director: Bryan Singer Stars: Nicholas Hoult, Stanley Tucci, Ewan McGregor, Bill Nighy We're freaking out so hard about Bryan Singer back in the director chair for X-Men: Days of Future Past that we've somewhat looked past this fairy tale while awaiting his next tweet about who is returning to the X-Men cast. We love when studios and their top filmmakers take changes, and Jack is exactly that -- a passion project for Singer and his first foray into big-screen fantasy storytelling. The ace supporting cast should deliver laughs and gravitas alike while Nicolas Hoult (who held his own amongst X-Men: First Class's starry cast)
