Selena Gomez Set to Perform During Dallas Cowboys' Thanksgiving Halftime Show

Selena Gomez is doing her part for the home team.

The 21-year-old pop princess, who hails from Grand Prairie, Texas, will headline the Dallas Cowboys' halftime show when the former Super Bowl champs take on the Oakland Raiders for their traditional Thanksgiving Day game at AT&T Stadium in Arlington.

"I'm so excited to be here," Gomez told the press at an official announcement on Sunday. "I'm from Texas, so I'm a little nervous, I'm not going to lie. But I'm very honored and I hope that we come—me, my dancers and my band—and we give Texas a really good show and I make them proud."

The "Come & Get It" singer's Nov. 28 performance will also act to kick off the Salvation Army's 123rd annual Red Kettle campaign, its iconic holiday drive to provide food, shelter and toys for families in need.

As a Texas native and fan, Gomez added that she and her family always watch the Cowboys when she's home for the holidays.

"I don't think you can be from Texas and not watch a Cowboys Thanksgiving game," she said.

The former Disney starlet hinted that fans "should expect something new with a twist of old," noting that "we had to make it special for my hometown."

Gomez also posted the good news about the gig to her Twitter followers along with a pic on Instagram.

"Feels SO good to be home. Hi Dallas. I hope I make TX proud. J," she wrote.

This is the 17th year the Cowboys have teamed up with the Army, a partnership which has raised in total so far over $1.75 billion. Last year's star performer, Kenny Chesney, raised $148.7 million while other artists who have participated include Keith Urban, Destiny's Child, and the Jonas Brothers among others.

Gomez is currently on her Stars Dance World Tour, which will take her over the next four weeks to such cities as Phoenix, Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Seattle, St. Louis and Chicago before wrapping up in Auburn Hills, Mich. on Nov. 26.
