Senna made the real world of Formula 1 racing one of the best documentaries in recent history. Will a dramatized version of champion rider Niki Lauda's obsessive competitive streak register with a wide audience? Well, with Ron Howard directing, we can't help but think this will be the safest race around. The upshot: Daniel Brühl's first starring role in the States.

Director:
David M. Rosenthal
Stars:

We'll watch Sam Rockwell in anything (seriously, put on Gentlemen Broncos again and we'll deal with it) so it doesn't matter if we think we've seen plenty of similar plots in the past, we just want to watch Rockwell lead the way -- even if it's into dangerous yet familiar territory.

C.O.G. (2013)

Director:
Kyle Patrick Alvarez
Stars:
Jonathan Groff, Denis O'Hare, Corey Stoll, Dean Stockwell

Adapting a David Sedaris story for the big screen is both an honor and a daunting task -- we're unsure if a film can even come close to matching his written tone effectively -- but director/adapter Kyle Patrick Alvarez has laid the foundation here, and reportedly there are fine performances from star Jonathan Groff, the oddly sexy Corey Stoll from "House of Cards", the reliable Denis O'Hare and Dale Rickey, and what's said to be a surprising and subdued turn from former "SNL" player Casey Wilson.

Enough Said (2013)

Certificate PG-13 93 min   -   Comedy

A divorced woman who decides to pursue the man she's interested in learns he's her new friend's ex-husband.
Director:
Nicole Holofcener
Stars:
Julia Louis-Dreyfus, James Gandolfini, Catherine Keener, Toni Collette

Though this movie will forever be remembered as one of James Gandolfini's last big-screen appearances, it's cool to know that Nicole Holofcener wanted to work with him earlier on in her (and his) career. Having him paired with Julia Louis-Dreyfus is one of the highest final honors imaginable, and we're looking forward to how this duo translates Holofcener's reliable perspective on romance, aging, what have you.

Battle of the Year (2013)

Certificate PG-13 110 min   -   Music

Battle of the Year attracts all the best teams from around the world, but the Americans haven't won in fifteen years. Dante enlists Blake to assemble a team of the best dancers and bring the Trophy back to America where it started.
Director:
Benson Lee
Stars:
Josh Holloway, Laz Alonso, Josh Peck, Caity Lotz

Chris Brown might not put his past with Rihanna behind him in the indefinite future, but unlike, say, Mel Gibson, he's managed to find success despite a tarnished public image. Here, he teams up with Josh Peck for director Benson Lee, who is turning his documentary into a feature for Screen Gems, who haven't put out a dance movie since Stomp the Yard, surprisingly. I'll make a large-popcorn bet that Brown's character redeems himself during the course of this battle.

Director:
Denis Villeneuve
Stars:
Hugh Jackman, Jake Gyllenhaal, Viola Davis, Melissa Leo

Zodiac spotlighted Jake Gyllenhaal as a nascent detective, and it was one of his finest roles to date. He also nailed the buddy-cop relationship in End of Watch, so I'm excited to see him as a cocky detective going up against a frantic Hugh Jackman in this Black List script by Aaron Guzikowski, who wrote Contrabanda. The young screenwriter's project sat in the laps of several directors (including Bryan Singer and Antoine Fuqua) before Denis Villeneuve came aboard to direct his fo ... Read more »

Jayne Mansfield's Car (2012)

Certificate R 122 min   -   Drama

Alabama; 1969: The death of a clan's estranged wife and mother brings together two very different families. Do the scars of the past hide differences that will tear them apart, or expose truths that could lead to unexpected collisions?
Director:
Billy Bob Thornton
Stars:
Tippi Hedren, Kevin Bacon, Ray Stevenson, Robert Patrick

The kindest reviews of Billy Bob Thornton's return to the director's chair have called it "dense" and peppered with "unexpected moments", but these gentle remarks run parallel to critiques that compared his two-family period piece to the car crash that claimed Ms. Mansfield's life. Maybe the next project to bring together Thornton and his occasional co-writing partner Tom Epperson will connect with audiences.

Director:
Fabien Constant
Stars:
Carine Roitfeld, Donatella Versace, Tom Ford, Karl Lagerfeld

Most recent fashion documentaries lift the veil from the industry in order to broaden their appeal; Fabien Constant's work seems to be more for insiders and the kind of people who watch runway shows on Style.com. (We're real excited for this one.)

A documentary on radical left-wing activist turned FBI informant, Brandon Darby.
Director:
Jamie Meltzer
Stars:
Brandon Darby, Scott Crow, Lisa Fithian, Caroline Heldman

In some ways similar to last year's The Imposter, this documentary on former radical leftist Brandon Darby is a portrait of a chameleon whose true nature and intentions cannot possibly be known. There's already a regarded Darby expose -- Better This World -- but director Jamie Meltzer's adds new layers of intrigue by simply pointing his camera directly at Darby and letting him do most of the talking.

Isaiah Washington, Tequan Richmond, Tim Blake Nelson, Joey Lauren Adams

Isaiah Washington and his co-star Tequan Richmond have earned strong reviews here -- especially Richmond for his near-wordless performance as a teenager pulled into a troubled family man's revenge plot. Director Alexandre Moors and writer R.F.I. Porto take a meditative looks at the true-life events, an approach that has earned strong reviews for their work. Avril Lavigne's Ex-Husband Deryck Whibley Finally Dropping Her Last Name

It turns out that Deryck Whibley has been holding onto a piece of Avril Lavigne all this time.

Lavigne filed for divorce in 2009 and remarried this summer, but only today did Whibley file a petition to legally drop his ex-wife's last name, which he had adopted as one of his middle names after they tied the knot in 2006.

Per court documents obtained by E! News, the Sum 41 singer would like to be Deryck Jason Whibley again, as opposed to Deryck Jason Lavigne Whibley.

How very John-and-Yoko of them.

Lavigne swapped vows with Nickelback frontman Chad Kroeger in July, the bride wearing a black Monique Lhuillier gown for the occasion.

Kate Upton Naked: Behind-the-Scenes Video of Her Sexy Body Paint Shoot for Sports Illustrated (video)

We're getting a behind-the-scenes look from Kate Upton's naked Sports Illustrated 2013 swimsuit issue photo shoot from earlier this year.

The 21-year-old blond bombshell wears only a body-paint bikini that was coated onto her before the shoot, which took place at the gorgeous Emerald Bay in the Bahamas.

"The day here is perfect," Upton says in a behind-the-scenes video from the SI shoot. "The weather is amazing and I was happy to take off my swimsuit for a little warm weather."

In the video, Upton recreates SI's 2011 cover photo, but instead of a bikini, she flaunts lots of skin in only paint that resembles bikini bottoms and a large necklace over her breasts. She poses seductively on the beach while kneeling in the sand.

"The hardest part was by far the necklace," Upton says of ... Read more »
