The Parkers, a reclusive family who follow ancient customs, find their secret existence threatened as a torrential downpour moves into their area, forcing daughters Iris and Rose to assume responsibilities beyond those of a typical family. Director: Jim Mickle Stars: Bill Sage, Ambyr Childers, Julia Garner, Wyatt Russell
Director Jim Mickle and writer/actor Nick Damici established themselves in the world of indie horror with 2006's Mulberry Street, and here they take on the English-language revamp of the 2010 Mexican film that got a lot of attention of the film-festival circuit and was eventually released by IFC. With the original movie's cache and the redo's strong cast (including a supporting appearance by Kelly McGillis, who was also seen in Mickle's recent Stake Land), many a critical eye awaited this project -- and this was an informed audience, unlike the critics and bloggers who were caught off-guard by the original. It's a feat in and of itself that Mickle has critics divided as to which version is better.
