I wouldn't be at all surprised if Precious screenwriter Geoffrey Fletcher's directorial debut becomes a cult film; it's a dark fantasy where teen assassins Saoirse Ronan and Alexis Bledel play patty cake and look up to their pop idol while they await news of their next target. I saw it at the Toronto Festival back in 2011 and remember nodding when a fellow audience member likened it to a Martin McDonagh film but with female leads. And not that anyone needs the reminder, but James Gandolfini takes full advantage of playing a nuanced character who acts as a sort of doomed father figure to the young women.
