We admire Tyler Perry for creating his own empire, brushing off the Alex Cross failure (easier than most other A-listers), and resetting his focus on alternating Madea/non-Madea films on his own schedule. This particular project first caught attention as Kim Kardashian was cast in a supporting role, while others remarked at how much star Jurnee Smollett had grown up since Eve's Bayou. Thematically, Perry isn't breaking any new ground, and we expect him to regain his footing here.
