As with The Namesake, here Mira Nair is concerned with the immigrant experience in the United States, though her source material - Mohsin Hamid's intimate novel - concerns a young, single man's life pre- and post-9/11. Riz Ahmed's lead performance has earned praise; reviews of Nair's direction, on the other hand, are middling - with most critics calling into question the decision to turn a character study into a thriller.
