Terrence Malick is one of the least time-bound directors in history, so the short wait for his follow-up to The Tree of Life is worth noting, as is the divisive reception the film received at its Venice premiere last year. But this should come as no surprise given Malick's unconventional approach to, well, everything. The cattiest thing we've ever heard Ben Affleck 2.0 say came at the expense of Malick's on-set direction, which seemed more focused on capturing natural elements than human interactions. The subject matter definitely seems skewed for older audiences only - the same people who now flock to Affleck-as-filmmaker's work.
