The thing I love about the sci-fi genre: ambitious films can earn ardent fans and just as many passionate detractors. I sense Juan Solanas's ambitious feature might generate such a divide with its twinned worlds, class themes, and epic romantic gestures. Considering the fates that befell Across the Universe and Cloud Atlas, maybe the third time's the charm for Jim Sturgess? Conversely, the genre seems to suit Kirsten Dunst just fine, what with Melancholia being two of the brightest stars on her resume.
